Effective shipping advice and preparation

The shipping guiding of inland and seagoing vessels behind the locks is the responsibility of the Vessel Traffic Service (VTS). All water-related traffic participants behind the locks receive information and guidance from VTS regarding routes, weather, and potential hazards in order to guarantee a seamless, secure, and effective traffic flow.
The Port of Antwerp-Bruges is dedicated to openness and shipping planning optimization in addition to the shipping guidelines. For instance, the Port Planners team makes sure that moorings are planned and processed safely and effectively. They do their best to consider the different actors, including the port, its facilities, and its patrons.

Digitization of the radar system

In order to guide shipping traffic, radar infrastructure is crucial. The radar network in Antwerp will be enlarged and completely digitalized. The naval chain operation is essential to Antwerp's efficient traffic because of its hinterland location and the complicated calls that come with it. Significant investments have been made in the chain partners' digital connectivity in recent years, including increased and improved data interchange. Seven radar setup locations will be added, while the twelve existing analog radars will be gradually replaced.
